Sapa Heat Transfer renamed Gränges
A venerable brand is resurrected when Sapa Heat Transfer changes its name to Gränges.
As part of the restructuring of the Sapa Group, the business area that manufactures rolled aluminium material for the global heat exchanger industry becomes a separate company with its own brand. The new Gränges company has R&D and production facilities in China and Sweden, with sales and technical support offices in the U.S., Brazil, India, Japan and South Korea.
“The new Gränges is the global market leader in rolled products for the heat exchanger industry, with an operating revenue of SEK 5 Billion, 900 employees and a global market share of 20%. Approximately half the cars in the world contain aluminium and know-how from us”, says Johan Menckel, Gränges CEO.
As previously announced by Sapa’s owner Orkla ASA of Norway, the aluminium profile business within Sapa has merged with Norsk Hydro under the brand name Sapa.
“Gränges was the name of our company up until 2000. We are proud to now return to our roots”, says Johan Menckel, CEO of Gränges.
Gränges, founded in 1896, was one of Sweden’s most successful industrial companies in the 1900s. Originally an industrial group within the mining, shipping and railroad industries, later the scope was narrowed to aluminium engineering. Gränges began with rolled products for the heat exchanger industry in 1972. Around the world, the name Gränges will now become synonymous with rolled aluminium products for the heat exchanger industry.
“Most of our customers are in the automotive industry. With our new brand, we want to be known to them for both tradition and innovation. Innovative Aluminium Engineering pretty well sums up what we deliver”, says Johan Menckel.
Today the operations in Sweden and China form the basis of Gränges’ global leadership. With stronger focus on core business, Gränges aims to continue working closely with customers, providing even more flexible services and the collected benefits of industry-leading R&D and best-in-class production capabilities.
