The Orkla Friends Fund contributes to Julemærkefonden
The December recipient of the Orkla Friends Fund contribution is Julemærkefonden in Denmark, which was chosen by Odense Marcipan.
Julemærkefonden runs four Julemærkehjem (care centres) in Denmark for children aged 7 to 14, who during a 10-week stay are helped to adopt a healthier lifestyle, improve their self-image and build new friendships. Each year, around 750 children and young people in Denmark stay at one of the centres, free of charge.
“We greatly appreciate Julemærkefonden’s dedicated efforts on behalf of so many children and their families. We therefore felt it would be nice to support the operation of the Julemærkehjem centres, which teach children good nutritional and exercise habits and interpersonal skills,” says Odense Marcipan CEO Niels S. Søgaard.
The Julemærkehjem centres are funded by the sale of Christmas-themed postage stamps (julemærker), fund-raising and donations from enterprises and private contributors.
The Orkla Friends Fund contribution was presented to Julemærkefonden at Odense Postorkester’s annual Christmas concert at Odense City Hall on Sunday 13 December. Niels S. Søgaard had the pleasure of handing over the donation to Julemærkefonden’s Director, Søren Ravn Jensen.
About the Orkla Friends Fund
The Orkla Friends Fund was inspired by the desire to live up to Orkla’s new vision, “Your Friend Everyday”. In the new Orkla Compass, the strategic pillars now include a fifth pillar, “Society”, and the Orkla Friends Fund also reflects this focus. Although funding will primarily be awarded within the category of “Nutrition and Health”, “Corporate Responsibility” is an alternative.
MTR Foods in India was the first company to designate a recipient. They chose the Akshaya Patra Foundation to receive the NOK 100,000 contribution in September. Lilleborg Profesjonell chose the Church City Mission in Norway and its Christmas fundraising campaign, “Make Someone Who is Dreading Christmas Happy”. Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Sverige selected My Special Day in November, and Odense Marcipan has now given NOK 100,000 to Julemærkefonden. The baton has been passed to Orkla Foods Norge, which is tasked with finding a charitable cause to receive NOK 100,000 from the Orkla Friend Fund in January 2016.
