The Oslo City Council has approved Orkla’s new office building

The Oslo City Council has approved the zoning plan for Orkla’s new office building at Drammensveien 149, which will provide workspace for around 800 employees and will be a leading branded consumer goods community in the Nordic region.

The City Council approved the zoning plan on Wednesday, 15 June.

“This is an important milestone for our new head office. We can now plan to commence construction in the third quarter of 2016, for completion in the course of 2018,” says Peter A. Ruzicka, President and CEO of Orkla ASA.

Orkla’s new headquarters will house the corporate centre, the executive management of Orkla’s five business areas and several of Orkla’s Norwegian companies. In addition to offices, premises will be built for product development and a test kitchen. Orkla is investing around NOK 1 billion in its new office building at Skøyen, Oslo.

“We are going to build an attractive, forward-looking office building with high environmental certification. Co-locating our operations is important to make it easy for us to exchange experience and expertise and extract synergies as the Nordic region’s leading branded consumer goods company. We are gathering a major branded consumer goods community under one roof,” Mr Ruzicka says.

Orkla purchased the properties at Drammensveien 149 and 151 at Skøyen in March 2013, with a view to building a new head office and concentrating several of its companies at one location. The planning process has been underway since Orkla acquired the properties. In the summer of 2015, the City of Oslo’s Agency for Planning and Building Services prepared a draft urban planning strategy for Skøyen. Based on this strategy, the project was designed as a 5-16-storey building with a total gross floor area of 21,000 square metres zoned for offices, businesses and housing.

In January, the draft plan was submitted to the Agency for Planning and Building Services for political consideration, and the City Council decision of 15 June was consistent with the recommendations of both the City Councillor for Urban Development and the Standing Committee on Urban Development.

The properties at Drammensveien 149 and 151 are centrally located at Skøyen in Oslo, within walking distance of buses, trains and taxis.
