Award for good working environment and sickness absence work

An award is made each year to a company or person who has made an outstanding contribution to efforts to achieve a more inclusive working life in Østfold County. This year the prize went to the plant at Råbekken in Fredrikstad.

”We have cut sickness absence by 46 per cent since we signed the agreement in 2008, and we have spent time building trust between managers and employees,” says Plant Manager Lars Joramo. Råbekken had strong competition from Glomma Papp and Trøgstad Municipality. Sixteen companies and individuals were proposed for the prize, but only three companies were nominated.

Involvement and inclusion

At Råbekken, the plant has singled out three main areas in which they have worked strategically in recent years: solution-focused management, involvement and inclusion, and the Occupational Health Service.

In addition to its efforts to reduce sickness absence, Stabburet at Råbekken has employed concrete measures such as reading and writing courses and activities to strengthen cooperation between elected representatives and the management. This has yielded results.

Celebrating with the employees

At Råbekken, the award was celebrated with free lunch and cakes for all employees. “We have created a sense of pride in everyone who works at Råbekken, and we have shown that we are more than just a wall along the main road,” stresses the Plant Manager.
