Frödinge to become part of Orkla Food Ingredients

Odense Marcipan A/S, a part of Orkla Food Ingredients, has decided to purchase the cake manufacturer Frödinge from Orkla Foods Sverige. The purpose of the acquisition is to build a solid platform for future development of Frödinge, while concentrating Orkla Foods Sverige’s activities on selected strategic growth areas.

Frödinge is well known for its traditional cheesecakes, mud cakes and other classic and novel dessert pies and cakes. In Odense Marcipan Group, Frödinge will be a sister company of Bæchs Conditori, a major player in the Danish cake market.

“Frödinge is a fantastic addition to Foods Ingredients, and together with our other cake and bakery ingredient businesses, we are creating a solid platform for growth, cost-effective production and product development,” says Johan Clarin, CEO of Orkla Food Ingredients.

Frödinge has roots dating back to 1929 and became part of Orkla through the acquisition of Rieber & Søn in 2013. The acquisition will include the takeover of one factory with 75 employees in Vimmerby in Småland province, Sweden. Sales of Frödinge products totalled SEK 221 million (NOK ~227 million) in 2019.

Odense Marcipan A/S was established in 1909 and is world-famous for its select marzipan and products such as fondant, nougat, chocolate and cake decorations. Odense Marcipan Group also comprises Bæchs Conditori, a supplier of frozen cakes and desserts, and the marmalade and fruit filling manufacturer Igos. Odense Marcipan Group supplies bakeries and confectioners, the out-of-home sector and grocery retail market.

Completion of the transaction is expected to have effect as from 1 October 2020.
