Production on Åland to continue

The Board of Directors of Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Finland has decided to maintain production of snacks and frozen products on Åland.

In February this year, Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Finland made an intentional decision concerning the factory on Åland, and a consultation process with employees and other stakeholders was initiated. The aim was to examine how the company could strengthen its long-term competitiveness by reducing manufacturing costs.

“We have now carried out a thorough assessment, in which we involved a great many stakeholders. We are glad that we can now conclude that there is a basis for continued production on Åland,” says Ann-Beth Freuchen, Chair of the Board of Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Finland.

Several alternatives have been considered, including moving production to other Orkla factories. The decision to retain production on Åland is based on a combination of factors, including an overall assessment of risks and competitiveness.

“It has been crucial to achieve savings that can assure the factory’s competitiveness. We have received constructive input from employees, factory management, public authorities, suppliers and other partners, and we can now confirm that conditions for maintaining production on Åland have improved sufficiently,” Ms Freuchen says.

There are 105 employees at the factory at Haraldsby on Åland. The employees were informed of the decision at a general meeting today.

Actions to reduce costs and improve efficiency have been identified, and implementation will begin immediately. There will be reductions in the factory workforce as part of this process.

“We operate in a highly competitive industry. The factory on Åland will be dependent on continued local and long-term support to ensure that it remains competitive also in the future,” says Ms Freuchen.
