Orkla Foods Norge donates football shoes to street teams

For several years Orkla Foods Norge has supported the work of the special-interest football club organisation Norsk Toppfotball for heavy substance abuseres. In January the company made an extra contribution of NOK 100,000 through the Orkla Friends Fund.

“We want to engage in long-term collaboration with street teams. Their activities are in line with Orkla’s vision of being ‘Your friend in everyday life’, and are a good illustration of our values ‘trustworthy’, ‘inspiring’ and ‘brave’,” says Dag Olav Stokken, Director of Communications at Orkla Foods Norge.

Street teams are a low-threshold programme for men and women addicts, which is organised by the football clubs and supported by the Directorate of Health. Players are offered a chance to practice two or three days a week, in addition to social activities such as A-team matches, bowling, pizza evenings and football golf. Through this project Norsk Toppfotball and the participating clubs seek to create a healthy arena for drug or alcohol abusers. Orkla Foods Norge has been a sponsor since the Fredrikstad FK’s street team was first established in 2011, and collaborates extensively with several Norsk Toppfotball clubs, both as sponsor and supplier. The company currently supports all the Toppfotball street teams by providing food for practice sessions and gatherings, and by holding courses on nutrition and diet.

“It’s important for us to be involved in Toppfotballen’s major community project. We contribute what we can, namely nutrition, with a view to restoring substance abusers’ personal dignity. The street teams’ work has produced positive results: several players are now substance-free and working again. Our contribution to the street teams has generated a great deal of interest, commitment and pride among our own employees. We’ve also had a lot of positive comments on our involvement,” says Dag Olav Stokken.
